Enhancing your display:
Doing so, will not only allow you to see our web site at its best, but will also allow you to enjoy your internet and computer sessions more. When win95 is installed it defaults to the lowest resolution and color modes. This limits you to seeing only 256 colors at one time.
Why live with this limitation when you can have 65,000 colors, or even more. Note: the level of color and resolution you can display depends on the capability of your graphics card. Better graphics cards with more 'display memory', can offer more levels of color and resolution. But don't fret, even the simplest of graphic cards can handle more than 256 colors. If your display is set for 256 colors, internet and photographic images will look BLOTCHY or GRAINY instead of realistic.
How to manually increase your color depth
If your using win95, it probably at the lowest color depth. (only 256 colors can be displayed on screen at once.) Hardly enough color to view photographic quality images on your computer screen. To increase the depth to 65,000 colors or if you have a graphics card with enough memory you can increase your display to show 16 million! colors. Either of these are great for photographs. If our photographs appear to look grainy or blotchy then your display is set to only 256 colors! Lets fix that...
Click START then SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL.
Next double click on the DISPLAY icon at the top of the window that just opened, click the SETTINGS tab.
Near the bottom, on the left of this window. Look under the COLOR PALETTE heading, click on the arrow on the right side of the little window that says '256 Color'. Click on 'High Color (16 bit). Then click OK. At this point your computer may ask if you want to reboot it. If you say yes - it should restart in 65,000 color mode! If you say no, it will be in 65,000 color mode the next time you re-boot your computer. Some computers will not ask to re-boot, they will attempt the display changes for 15 seconds. If you like them (if they look ok) you can click YES and they will remain. If for some reason your machine cannot handle this display, it will revert back to your old setting in 15 seconds.
Next double click on the DISPLAY icon and at the top of the window that just opened click the SETTINGS tab.
Now in the desktop area you will find a SLIDER CONTROL. If your graphics card allows it... you should be able to slide it to the right, which will increase your display's working resolution. Or slide it to the left to decrease your visual resolution. Though web pages can be viewed at all settings, most if not all of them will look better at higher settings. After you have selected a higher setting (I recommend you try 800x600 with a standard size monitor). You then click OK and may be asked to reboot your computer.
As you increase the resolution you will notice every thing appears a bit smaller (this might take some getting use to) but in the long run everything you do will look clearer and sharper, and you will also be able to fit more on the screen! More information or larger pictures will appear in your browser or you can run your web browsing program and other windows or programs you might want to use at the same time. The larger your monitor the higher the resolution you can view comfortably. I use 1152x864(32bit color) on a 17 inch monitor and love it.
Lastly - We recommend you use MS Internet Explorer over Netscape. You will then will be able to enjoy all the graphics, frames, colors and music! - programmed into this and other web sites!
